  Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland
                                           (1653-1658)

A controversial figure, even now, Oliver Cromwell nonetheless possessed
exceptional skill as a public speaker that cannot be denied.

Cromwell used his enviable oratorical skill to change the course of history
in the British Isles as few, if any, have done before or since.

We can argue, of course, about whether he was a competent general and
whether his taking over the autocratic governance of the state was wise . . .
